Mentoring
It is widely recognised that mentors’ play a pivotal
role in the education and training of teachers. This role
is likely to develop and have even greater significance in
the future with an increase in the proportion of time spent
in school on programmes of initial teacher training, the
emergence of Training Schools and greater diversity of
provision through flexible and employment based routes.
These factors will be key to informing the design and
content of mentor training programmes. We are already
witnessing the involvement of Advanced Skills Teachers in
contributing to ITT programme design and mentor training
programmes and these initiatives are to be welcomed in the
development and enhancement of partnership provision.
